You would think that the talk of the town these days would be about the presidential election or perhaps some local election. Perhaps how Bush and Kerry did in the debate on Friday. Or you might think that the UT v. OU football game could be the inspiration for idle conversation around the neighborhood. No not here. Reminiscent of how rumors spread through Cicely, Alaska, the subject of the chatter at the mailboxes, between strolling parents and walkers of dogs, between the man from the utility company and the carpenter, between children on their way to school amongst themselves and no doubt with their teachers is the turkeys.
Not what to expect at Thanksgiving dinner, still a ways off, but the flock of five turkeys that have taken up residence in our neighborhood. They stroll down the streets picking a bug here, a worm there, and of course pieces of deer corn left behind by our other urban wild animals.
May be a testament to where we have arrived. Five turkeys stir up more conversation than Bush and Kerry combined.
