A few weeks ago I had one of these inconsequential brain blocks - what was the name of the Soviet hockey team goalie from when I was a kid. In those days the Soviet team had a near mythical goal-tender. I vividly remember a little photograph of him in a boys pocket calendar i owned somewhere in the environs of 1970. But what was his name? It wasn't Vladislav Tretiak (http://www.peoples.ru/sport/hockey/tretyak/) ... what was it. I just couldn't think of the name. That really bothered me. Which led to a massive web search to see if I could track down the team roster from the 1968 Soviet team or something like that.
I found all manner of interesting hockey websites along the way – found on the net.
And eventually I found my guy. Viktor Konovalenko.
"Konovalenko" sounds cool. It is catchy (in fact it is the name of Swedish advertising agency www.konovalenko.se - they ought to know what a good name is). So, because it sounds cool and because Konovalenko was the best there was in his field, I have named this blog after him. It will offer musings on hockey, politics, the world, more hockey, and occasionally art.
From time-to-time, I get in my head to find out about something I used to know about. Like Crescent Pepita Special bicycles or Renault Le Car automobiles. Usually these lead to blind alleys on the web. My friend Jonas has an excellent blog www.kornet.nu/blindhona. Regrettably he writes in Swedish or I’d turn most everyone I know onto his articles. They are pearls of wisdom intermixed with jewels of humor. His subtitle for his blog is “Hittat på nätet och i världen” which means “Found on the net and in the world”. I will use that as my mantra too. And when I stumble down a wild goose chase that leads nowhere, I will try to add something to it. Here at Konovalenko
